The WBRP Bed Blitz gives local youth (ages 5-18) a twin-size bed frame, a brand-new mattress, sheets, pillows, a blanket or quilt, laundry detergent, books, a hygiene kit, and a teddy bear. This entire kit is given away for free thanks to the generosity of individual donors and corporate sponsors like Sherman’s and YouthBuild McLean County. This will be our 10th anniversary—in the past two years, we have given away 350+ beds to local children here in Bloomington/Normal.

The Bed Blitz acknowledges that families may have different needs, so we provide 3 different options:

• Full bed set: frame, mattress, sheets, pillows, detergent, etc.

• All but frame: mattress, sheets, pillows, extras but NO frame

• Frame and mattress only

Bed Blitz 2026 - October 17, 2026

Application will open Sep 1 and close Sep 22. The Bed Blitz Selection Committee will select who will receive beds based on criteria such as household income, need, and zip code. Volunteer information will open on September 7 to the general public.​

Timeline:

• June 7-Aug 11: Donations can be dropped off to YouthBuild

• Aug 31: Volunteer sign-ups open to TITLE sponsors ONLY

• Sep 1: application to be a 2026 Bed Blitz recipient opens

• Sep 7: volunteer sign-ups for general public open

• Sep 22: Bed Blitz recipient application closes

• Oct 1-8: Recipients are notified and contacted

• Oct 17: 10th Annual Bed Blitz at YouthBuild 8 AM-4 PM

WBRP welcomes monetary donations, as well as in-kind donations of new sheets, blankets, pillows, and laundry detergent. You can also sponsor a whole bed set for a child in our community with a donation of $250.

• Laundry detergent (standard size; ex: 2 gal)

• Stuffed animals/plushies/Teddy Bears

• Oral hygiene kits (toothbrush, toothpaste, floss)
